Write Your Own Story
“You don’t have to be the villain in your own story” ~ Heartland
This quote could go in so many directions by changing the word “villain” to whatever it is that may be heavy on our hearts. Maybe your word is “victim” or something a little less intense such as “pushover” or “whiner.” While some words sound a bit lighthearted, they can hold their own weight when feeling pushed around or a trendier tone such as “bullied.”
How we write our story is something we can do from our own court. How we navigate from our playing field into the world is in our hands. Picking up the pen or moving our fingers across a computer keyboard often helps put things into perspective. Feeling like a victim or a pushover, when we write the feelings down, might bring us to a realization that it’s not as bad as we thought, or it can simply make us feel better to get those feelings out and onto paper. Another great tip is to shred the paper after you write it all down! We can’t shred what we type, unless we print it out, but we can easily hit the DELETE button!
As I write these very words, I am thinking about things that have weighed heavy on me lately. Typing on my keyboard helps me clear the path from those “things” and get back to my own story, and I like my story.
Our stories are full of wonderful “things” and wonderful people! Write your own story and get beyond the heavy and into the light!
