Focus on the Pause

I have heard that focusing on the pause is a positive thing to do.

However, I am not so sure it is all that easy to do. I feel like pauses are brief. We may pause to reflect, but do we really pause? As we think we are pausing to reflect on a decision or an event in our lives our minds may likely continue to race.

Recently, my daughter shared a breathing exercise with me where you take in a deep breath for a count of 4, hold it, then breathe out for a count of 4. The hold can be up to a count of 4 also, but I think it can be whatever feels right. Vanessa explained that what happens during the “pause” is important. That pause between breaths is critical! If we breathe out smoothly it feels great; but what if we start coughing or choking because of how we breathed in? That particular “pause” may not feel so great! So, what really happens during the pause between breaths?

I recently added an evening coaching session time we call, “Pajama Hour.” During those sessions my hope is to reflect on the pause, and what happens during that brief time. I doubt it is the same for any two of us. It may even be hard to focus on. As a coach, I would strive to ask the right questions to guide to the right answers that fit you. Not what fits me. Focusing on the pause. It sounds relaxing.
