Healthy Eating

In April 2023, due to a big life change, our health insurance had to change suddenly. Interesting how blessings can come from hard things that happen in life. The change in insurance brought new wellness checks for me and husband, Vernon. The new program turned out to be invaluable to spark changes in our eating habits and brought us to a place of much more healthy eating.

The simplicity of it is what sparked my choosing to blog about it. Neither of us have never been good at counting calories or really sticking to a healthy eating plan. We don’t stick with diets well either. The program helped us think about what we were eating. We received daily text message reminders and friendly tips. Sometimes those were good, sometimes it was a little annoying. But the best thing that came from this is we have learned how to prepare and eat a healthy plate of healthy food. There are lots of good tips on the internet for “healthy plating” which consists of lean protein, vegetables, fruit, and grain. This alone really helped us both lose a little weight but mostly it has made us feel much better! I have a feeling of good health that I truly did not before. We did not purchase anything to help us feel healthier. We simply made efforts to have healthy, fresh food in the house and put healthy plates in front of us. This meant shopping for fresh fruits and vegetables every week. We were those people who would buy these items but always ended up tossing out part of it because it spoiled before we could eat all of it.

Now we eat it all before it spoils! We decided to make healthy eating a part of our lives and it has been so worth it. The program used coaches which may have been partly AI, but now and then a real person (coach) texted.

Coaching is beneficial in so many areas of life. Being coached to learn to eat healthier made a big impact on both of us. I am always happy to coach on any topics. My biggest tip on this topic is to choose healthier foods and make it a habit.
