Living True to Your Heart
“You might as well live the way that feels true to your heart”
I saw this quote on Linked In recently. The full post stated:
“You’ll always be brave in someone’s mind and coward in another’s, strong to one and fragile to another, good to one and terrible to another.
You will be seen as annoying to one and comforting to another. Some will feel anxious around you and some will find peace in your company. Some will see you as ‘too much’ while others will see you as a gift.
The world will look at you from their subjective point of view. The world is never going to agree on a definition of who you are.
So, you might as well live the way that feels true to your heart.”
When I read it, I thought to myself how true this is. The post author summarized it by stating, “No matter how kind, strong, or genuine you are, people will always see you through their own lens – not your truth.”
In reality, how much does it really matter how other people see me? If I am kind, strong and genuine then that is who I am. It’s a matter of living out my own story. When I love people along the way, I hope they love me too, but it won’t change me, and it won’t deter me from being who God made me to be if they don’t.
Even the words, “Living true to you heart” can be interpreted in many ways. As for me, my heart belongs to God. He made me this way. I cannot and will not be changed by people in work, in personal relationships and in life overall.
